VTAP — the Visa Tokenized Asset Platform — is Visa's blockchain infrastructure product designed to let banks mint, burn, and transfer fiat-backed tokens on public and permissioned blockchains. Visa operates a global network of over 15,000 financial institutions across more than 200 countries and territories. BBVA is already live in the VTAP sandbox, with Ethereum-based pilots underway.
As VTAP moves from sandbox to live deployment, an onchain namespace is the natural coordination layer — for bank token issuers, developer tooling, API identifiers, and institutional DeFi integrations. .vtap is the only namespace that matches the product name exactly, putting its owner at the center of that identity layer.
Full acquisition of .vtap means complete registry rights over the TLD on Freename's blockchain infrastructure — the right to mint, assign, or sell any subdomain under .vtap. BBVA and any future VTAP-integrated bank have direct interest in .vtap for tokenized deposit identity, client-facing subdomain infrastructure, and programmable smart contract address namespacing. A partner consortium or single early adopter could lock in first-mover position across the ecosystem.
